CRYSTAL RENN: SLIP SLIDING AWAY...

One of my favourite pictures of last Spring was this one of Crystal Renn on the runway wearing this gorgeous creation of Jean-Paul Gaultier's.  The sumptuousness of the dress on Crystal's curves was breathtaking.

Call me crazy, but I am saddened by Crystal's weight loss duing the past year.  She's lost her mojo.

Crystal after weight loss (2011)

Crystal says she lost the weight in a healthy way by exercising.  I'm not so sure.  Here's what the Daily Mail reported:

"The 24-year-old Chanel model, who was previously a UK Size 16, said that she finally felt ready to exercise for the first time since her teens, when she suffered from an eating disorder and became addicted to working out for up to eight hours a day.

She revealed that a difficult break-up had contributed to her decision to embrace a more healthy lifestyle, and a combination of hiking and yoga had helped the weight drop off.

She told NY Magazine: 'In the past, I avoided exercise because it brought back terrible feelings. I wasn’t ready. And I was scared that maybe I was going to be addicted again.
'That’s a fear that goes through your mind, whenever you’re getting over an addiction or a disease like anorexia, yeah, I absolutely was worried.

'But then I guess you could say my life changed in a really drastic way. For one, there was a split-up that I went through that was very difficult, and I thought, “You know what? I need to be in a good place. I need to find me again.”'
Crystal in the throes of anorexia

Crystal suffered with anorexia for years.  I have serious concerns that her eating disorder and exercise addiction may have reared their ugly heads again.

  2. I agree with you because of the fear whether she's in anorexia again and that she lost 'her mojo' through the weight loss.
I really loved her 'plus' size body because it was so lively, confident and beautiful...

  3. Theres such a massive difference between curves and fat
She's just fat, or at least, used to be.

Sure, she may have curves, just her curves are/were hidden under obvious amounts of fat.

At a Bmi of 12 I had curves! Because, shock horror, that's how my body is built.
    *rolls eyes*

  4. @Anonymous: If you take a closer look the only things nature can create are ... rounded shapes. Don´t know if that´s the only reason why you found curves on your body even at BMI 12. Is this called "body morphic disorder"?

I am at BMI 16,5, and I´ve no curves (in habitual language use. I guess I can see my body just as it is. Not too fat or something like that. But I don´t want to be attractive for some reasons.). The only "real curve" I have got is on top of my body just because I am not a conehead. xD

Ok, in my opinion Chrystal Renn was quite fat but she managed it to be beautiful in her way. I like her "fat" pics. Hope she doesn´t become anorexic again. It´s not worth it.

Feel free to correct my English, I don´t know if I was able to say what I meant. ^^

  5. I'm pretty sure Christal Renn was extremely triggered when she saw how drastically photoshopped she was in those now infamous photos. That would do it for me, let me tell you. How can she not be affected? Yes, she was overweight & there's nothing wrong with leading a healthy life with whole foods & exercise. I'm just afraid she will take it too far and end up anorexic with exercise bulimia, so in that respect, I do worry for her.

  6. Essentially, 'curvy' does not always mean healthy and neither does 'thin'. Either way, the media usually glorifies one end of a scale or the other, the fact she's lost weight does not necessarily mean she's relapsed - and if she has, she won't admit it as this is the nature of the disease.

I just thought I'd throw my bit in - I've had an ED but didn't fall under a BMI of 17, now I'm at just about 18 - despite the increase of all sorts of foods in my diet (no restrictions, no obsession with exercise, NO purging) and with an underactive thyroid known to make you put weight on, my body has settled at this weight and the number is refusing to go up - and I don't have any other health problems that would cause it. So it is possible to stay slim, and be healthy - without resorting to ED behaviours.

Perhaps a good way to go would be to stop obsessing over Crystal's body shape and let her find her own balance instead of telling her what she should and shouldn't be?

  9. The issue isn't whether she's "fat" or "thin" or "curvy" or even how much weight she's lost. The question is *how* she lost the weight and *why*. I find it very hard to believe that a traumatic breakup suddenly caused her to start living a "healthier" lifestyle. IMO it's far more likely that it triggered a relapse. I could be wrong, and if I am, well, good for her. If she has indeed relapsed, I hope she can admit it to herself and get the help she needs before too long.

  11. Crystal, honey you are still an anorectic, you can't lose weight in a "healthy" way. Once you recover, you release all control of your body weight to nature\god. That's recovery, there is no way, no way you can ever diet, no matter what it's for. Think about it, even if you're an alcoholic & have been sober for 20 years, you don't (and never will) be able to drink again like a regular person. Period.

She didn't need to lose one pound!

If you're concerned about your health, visit a dietician who knows about eating disorders, walk your dogs in the evening for exercise, get sandwich with whole-grain bread.

Don't diet, a diet is never a diet for us, it's death.

    Much love Crystal.

  12. She looks great now! She looks fit in other pictures and hopefully it's from actually working out. I eat normally and ride a bicycle about 12 hours a week (I race bikes now) and have a 6 pack! Yes, I'm thin, eat better than ever, AND feel great. I hope she's doing it the same way.

Yes, it's possible to be very thin and healthy.

  13. I don't want to be judgmental because sometimes there are several factors that affect something. But I don't think she lost this weight naturally through hiking or leisurely walks. People with eating disorders never fully recover. They are always affected somehow by what they went through. Perhaps she has given in to the illness once more.

  14. My personal opinion is that she looks heaps better when she's at a lower weight. I think it brings out her features more. In the upper pictures she looks a little flabby, like she can't even run a mile.

    (for the record, I'm not pro-ana, I'm pro-fit and anti-fat)

  15. the very act of judging her or anyone else on if they are fat or thin or too thin is f'd up. eating disorders dont manifest the same in everyone nor even the same way per relapse in the same person. half the time, it isnt VISIBLE at all - average weight/average appearing people often have the most insidious disorder. i hope she is healthy and that we should all be luckier to not have the whole world judging us on our size.
